Late 18th Century, probably New York. Curved serpentine crest rail (Ash), the ears with carved volutes joined to a seven-spindle (Ash or Hickory) back pierced through the medial curve rail with boldly carved left knuckle hand grip supported on vigorously turned base. The chair possesses an oversized writing arm (Poplar) on the proper right side, fitted with two original dovetailed drawers. The generous seat (basswood) raised on boldly turned splayed legs (Maple) with ring-and-reel-turned H-form stretcher in old brown surface. There are traces of original red paint on the underside of the seat.
