Rare Rhode Island mahogany Chippendale writing desk, having a split hinged molded top possessing a mirror, faux two-drawer front hinging down to reveal a writing surface with beautifully fitted interior, a single working partitioned drawer below, retaining large brasses raised on tapered stop-fluted legs with small brackets. The stop-fluted legs are characteristic of several tables from John Townsend of Newport.
A similar desk is on exhibit at the John Brown House Museum in Providence.
