19th Century Vinegar Grain Painted Blanket Chest, the fantastic and original colorful pattern was created through the application of pigment dissolved in water, turpentine, or vinegar, which was then manipulated while wet using a variety of tools or textured materials such as brushes, combs, or putty. The technique is traditional, the result provides a unique example of motion and color. The chest features a lift-top with applied half-round moldings above a deep storage compartment above two long-drawers retaining original brass hardware. The chest is raised on distinctive stylized cutout bracket feet.
