Romney's Self-Portrait by Adrian Lamb
SHP058
H 33.5in x W 28.5in
Romney's self portrait by Adrian Lamb (1901 - 1988) painted in one sitting in 1928 from the original in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Mr. Lamb studied at the Art Students League, Cooper Union, and, in Paris at the Julien Academy. His portrait of Daniel Webster hangs in the United States Senate's Hall of Fame. Other portraits hang in the White House, the Smithsonian Institution, Harvard Law School, the Pentagon and the United States Naval Academy. In the winter of 1795, British born George Rommey (1734 - 1802) painted a head of himself, which, thought slight, and not entirely finished, being painted at once, shows uncommon power of execution; the likeness also is strong, but there is a certain expression of languor that indicates the approach of disease. It is remarkable that it is painted without spectacles, though he had been in the habit of using eye glasses for many years. 28 1/2"W x 33 1/2"H.
