|Title:||19th Century American School Landscape with Estate, Figures and Cows, C.W. Henry|
American school landscape with estate, figures, and cows in original frame. Signed lower right, C.W. Henry October 1881. Born in Guilford, CT Henry was a painter in Vermont that specialized in Theater curtains, particularly scenic landscapes adorned with theater curtains, but also did scenic landscapes as well. Henry and his family comprised an itinerant arts group that traveled from town to town in the late 19th and early 20th century. They would take up residence in a town, and, while Charles Henry fulfilled commissions to paint scenic curtains for local buildings, his family would perform vaudeville shows, often on the stages where the curtains would be hung. Up to 45 scenic curtains in Vermont are thought to be Henry’s work. Label verso. Oil on artist board.
Work measures 18”x 24” (22” x 28” including frame).
