Landscape with seated man and woman, Evelyn Dubiel
H 16in x W 20in
Born in Connecticut in 1922, Evelyn Dubiel, a self-taught folk artist, was inspired to paint after a trip to Colonial Williamsburg. She did a series of reproductions based on the work of Ammi Phillips and then created paintings based on her own experiences.
This work, a copy of Jacob Maental’s 19th century portrait of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Bomberger, features a landscape with seated man and woman atop a hill overlooking a valley with 18th century houses.
Oil on canvas.
