John Neagle (1796-1865) was born in Boston but spent most of his life in Philadelphia studying with famous portraitist Thomas Sully and later marrying into the Sully family.
This striking portrait was attributed by the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. to John Neagle. The portrait measures 30" H x 25" W, including frame and has not been relined.
